HMS Middle School Performing Arts

The spring drama production is a special part of our middle school program, bringing together extracurricular opportunities and core curriculum. Every middle school student at HMS learns what it takes to put together various aspects of a drama production and each student is required to participate in some way.

Students audition for acting parts, a drama club gathers publicity information, and students prepare props and work with the costume director. Volunteer adults work with student groups to assist students in running the lighting and sound, working with hairstyles and stage make-up, and learning basic set construction. Finally all students learn how to host guests in a semi-formal setting by serving at both a Friday luncheon for senior citizens groups and an evening dinner show open to the public.

The 2021 HMS Middle School Performing Arts in-person performances have been cancelled.

Instead, this year, middle school students may choose to participate in an Acting Club and/or on the Tech Crew. Actors will learn acting techniques as well as plan and prepare short plays/scenes. Students working with the Tech Crew will assist with recording scenes & editing video. Together with the directors they will determine how to present their work for family & friends.

2020 HMS Middle School production of: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

adapted by Joseph Robinette from the book by C.S. Lewis

Come join us in the exciting world of Narnia as we present C.S. Lewis’ classic story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Experience the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four siblings who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the never-to-be-forgotten world of Narnia. Through the temptation of Edmund by the witch, the slaying of the evil wolf by Peter, the witnessing of Aslan’s resurrection by Susan and Lucy, and the crowning of the four new rulers of Narnia, we discover a story of faith, forgiveness, and redemption.
